a spa day (for kids) at home!

Need a rainy day idea? We've got you covered. A perfect spa day plan for kids at home! Face masks, bath bombs, cucumber eyes, and infused water? This spa day caters to both boys and girls, and it's enough to make it feel like a very special day, but it's also easy to execute. We've got instructions, templates, and a shopping list - get ready to relax!

We started by making a spa menu, as I wanted the kids to know what to expect, and it was part of the fun to brainstorm with them the various activities. (Ours was just on pen on paper, but Sabrina made a pretty template for you to use - link below the graphic!) We had a few of the supplies at home, but otherwise we did a drive up Target pick up to grab the rest. There is a full shopping list at the bottom.

And now, the details!

Prep Work:

  • Make the infused water just using some cut up some pieces of cucumber and orange little cups of cold water. Ours only sat for about 30 minutes but tasted like fully infused 'spa' water!

  • Set out all the supplies in the bathroom (full list at the end of the post) and lay out towels on the floor and blankets on the bed.

  • Turn on spa music - we just used Alexa/Google by askign for "spa music" and they delivered.

Step 1: Get into robes. You may have robes at home. If you don't, ours are from:

  • Pokemon Robes (from Target)

  • Unicorn pastel tie-dye robes (from Amazon) I suggest the one that's linked (without the unicorn horn) as the horn and mane fur hasn't held up super well!

Step 2: Rinse faces and put on face masks. In reality, this lasted for just a few minutes... but the memories of how they felt and looked have lasted several months longer. :) We used the following:

  • Panda (and other animal) masks (from Amazon)

  • Variety pack (from Amazon) Not specifically for kids but says 'all skin types' and have 3k reviews on Amazon!

Step 3: Fill a bath with warm water. We added those edible rose petals that we've used in a few other posts. I also gave each kid a bath bomb with a little dino inside... hence the VERY pink water.

  • Bath Bombs (on Amazon) - priced to be able to give each kid one

  • Rose Petals (on Amazon)

Step 4: Put on the hair mask. While they were in the bath, we also did a hair mask using a $6 bottle from Target.

Step 5: Serve the infused water. It was pretty exciting for them to be drinking anything in the bath... let alone this new type of water. (Note: Our toddler and preschooler did eat the pieces when they was served his drink, so remove them before serving if you're not OK with that!)

Step 6: Put on a body scrub. We drained the bath before starting the body scrub, and we used a body scrub that was made by a friend and gifted as a birthday party goodie bag (yeah - genius!!). So that means I don't have a link that we used, but there seem to be quite a few at Target!

Step 7: Rinse or spray them down to get off the hair mask and the body scrub. Pop out of the tub and get those robes back on!

Step 8: Move to a bed or flat surface to lay down and prepare for the cucumber eyes. Ask them to lie down and close their eyes, then place the cucumbers on their eyes.

Note: I pre-cut these in the bathroom while they were in the bath (yes - I hid the knife). I didn't do it earlier as I didn't want them to dry out.

Step 9: Once they're done with the cucumber eyes (we had various levels of ability to sit still of this - some of the kids actually relaxing while others could barely keep the cucumbers still for the duration of a photo), serve warm tea.

Note: While they were sitting in the bed, I just heat up water in the mugs for about a minute Make sure to test the water to make sure it's the right (warm) temperature - as it will vary based on how much water and how many cups of course. Then we added the bags. I used chamomile, but mint would have been my first choice (if we had one without caffeine)... of course there are lots of choices out there!

Step 10: Dry off and get into some cozy clothes for your next activity! :)

We had so much fun doing this one weekend day when Bill was out of the country for work - it was the perfect thing to look forward to and then experience for a morning. And it also kept them all corralled and having fun doing the same thing together (which is not always easy with ages spread from 2 to 8). I hope you enjoy as much as we did!
